A fundamental field knot has emerged in the course of the Lebanon-Israel negotiations, after an American source revealed to Al Arabiya that the main dispute revolves around the mechanism for starting the withdrawal, in light of Israel’s adherence to the principle of “step by step” before any withdrawal from its positions.
According to the American source, Israel is asking the Lebanese army to prove its ability to dismantle Hezbollah’s structure, and is also requesting field steps from the army before any withdrawal.
The source indicated that Israel is requesting to inspect the Ali al-Taher tunnels and ensure that they are free of party members, in addition to the Lebanese army’s position in Ali al-Taher before implementing the withdrawal.
The American source pointed out that Israel adheres to the principle of “step by step” with Lebanon.
These data come in light of the continuation of the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, amid a clear focus on the field arrangements in the south and the withdrawal mechanism, in parallel with the American role in managing the negotiation process and trying to bring the viewpoints closer between the two parties.
