President Fouad Siniora praised the speech delivered by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, yesterday, on the 48th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr, praising his adherence to the basic national constants based on Lebanon’s unity, independence, full sovereignty, and Arab identity.
Siniora praised Berri’s emphasis on the importance of Islamic-Christian coexistence and civil peace under the umbrella of the Taif Agreement, and the commitment to complete its implementation in a sound manner, under the auspices of the Lebanese state and its constitutional, political and administrative institutions and its legitimate military and security agencies.
He said that Berri drew in his speech a clear Lebanese political and national line, considering that the sensitivity of the stage requires the concerted efforts of all to restore the establishment of Lebanon and the advancement of the state, homeland, and institutions, based on the Taif Agreement and the Lebanese constitution.
Siniora stressed the need to limit the national decision and the decisions of war and peace to the hands of the Lebanese state, and to limit weapons to the legitimate military and security institutions, stressing that the state alone is responsible for negotiating in the name of Lebanon and for itself.
He renewed his adherence to the position he expressed in the article he published last July 3 regarding the framework agreement, calling on all Lebanese to stand by the state and its legitimate representatives in order to end the Israeli presence in Lebanese territory and restore free national decision-making.
He also called for implementing the principle of equality among all Lebanese in duties and obligations under the Constitution, and for uniting their ranks to restore all Lebanese lands occupied by Israel and rebuild and rebuild what was destroyed, while Lebanon retains all its rights.
