On the anniversary of the declaration of “Greater Lebanon” on September 1, 1920, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, affirmed that the gamble today is to end wars, preserve sovereignty, and move towards building the state and its institutions and revitalizing the economy, stressing that achieving these goals begins with everyone returning to the care of the state.
President Aoun said that the “Greater Lebanon” declaration represented a fundamental achievement in crystallizing the Lebanese idea, through the establishment of a political entity that brings together the various Lebanese sects, and the constitutional consecration of the state with the mission.
He pointed out that this path was completed with the proclamation of the Lebanese constitution and the establishment of the republic in 1926, the centenary of which Lebanon is celebrating throughout the current year, before it was later consolidated with the attainment of independence and the establishment of state institutions.
He added: “Despite the dilemmas and conflicts, Lebanon has continued and is returning to play its role among nations,” considering that the main challenge at the current stage lies in extracting the country from the cycle of wars, protecting its sovereignty, launching the path of state building, and revitalizing the economic movement and the business sector.
President Aoun stressed that this path can only be achieved through the return of all Lebanese to the state, stressing that it is the only unifying reference for them, and that the National Charter constitutes the starting point that unites them and preserves their diversity within unity.
President Aoun’s positions come on the 106th anniversary of the “Greater Lebanon” Declaration, which constituted a founding milestone in the birth of the Lebanese entity in its modern form, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 1926 Constitution and the establishment of the Lebanese Republic.
