Representative Jamil Al-Sayyed considered that the Israeli attacks witnessed in the south today, including the destruction of Ghandour Hospital and the Ministry of Finance building in Nabatieh, force a reconsideration of the official approach to the existing framework agreement.
Commenting on the developments, Al-Sayed said that President Joseph Aoun held “the Israeli side” fully responsible for the ongoing escalation, calling on the United States and the international community to intervene, while Prime Minister Nawaf Salam made solidarity calls with the mayor of Nabatieh and the imam of the city.
Al-Sayyid added that the question raised, in his opinion, is whether what is happening is enough for Lebanon to announce its withdrawal from the “Framework Agreement,” which he described as “already dead,” instead of being satisfied with positions and communications after each escalation.
He continued: “Some will say: We fear that if we withdraw from it, the greatest will happen to us,” before adding: “Indeed, we are in the greatest.”
Al-Sayed’s position comes on the heels of a day that witnessed a widespread Israeli escalation in Nabatieh and its environs, with targeting of facilities and buildings inside the city, amid official Lebanese positions that held Israel responsible for the escalation and demanded international action to stop it.
