High-ranking sources revealed to Al Arabiya that the Pakistani army commander, Field Marshal Asim Munir, conveyed to the Iranian side an American offer to stop the blockade and lift sanctions, in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and stopping attacks by groups linked to Iran.
According to the sources, during his visit to Iran, Mounir carried clear messages regarding ways to end the crisis, explaining that the accusations of violating the memorandum of understanding include both parties, and that the responsibility for obstructing the understandings lies with both the United States and Iran.
Munir met in Iran with Mohsen Rezaei, the representative of the Iranian leader and Secretary of the Supreme Security Council, in a meeting that the sources described as “clear and decisive,” in which he stressed that Pakistan does not take sides and seeks to end the crisis.
Munir Rezaei informed that direct attacks between Iran and America had stopped, demanding in return that attacks by groups linked to Iran stop, and stressing Pakistan’s desire to end the war permanently.
The Iranian side also called for the resumption of work on the memorandum of understanding, stressing that the continuation of the current path does not serve to reach a permanent settlement.
On the other hand, Rezaei told Munir that Iran will continue fighting in the event of any new escalation, indicating that the Iranian leader wants a permanent solution to the crisis.
These contacts come in light of ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain the escalation and open a negotiating path that leads to a permanent cessation of military actions, in conjunction with the continuation of regional and international contacts regarding the future of understandings between Tehran and Washington.
