The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the US threats related to the sanctions imposed on Iran, stressing that cooperation between Beijing and Tehran is taking place within the framework of international law, and that it should not be interfered with or disrupted.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday, during a press conference, that “Chinese cooperation with Iran always takes place within the framework of international law,” stressing that this cooperation “should not be interfered with or disrupted.”
Lin added that China is closely following developments related to the US sanctions on Iran, stressing that Beijing will take “all necessary measures” to firmly protect its rights and interests.
The Chinese position came after the United States announced, on Monday, the imposition of new sanctions on 60 individuals, entities and ships linked to Iran, as part of an economic pressure campaign that Washington said aims to cut off the sources of revenue that support the Iranian economy.
These developments come amid escalating US pressure on Tehran, coinciding with Washington’s warnings of the repercussions of dealing with Iranian entities subject to sanctions, while Beijing confirms its adherence to its legal framework in cooperation with Tehran.
