Amid the continued Israeli escalation in Lebanon, new data was revealed regarding the raid that targeted the Haret Hreik area in the southern suburb of Beirut last Wednesday, in an operation that brought back the scene of targeting to the heart of the Lebanese capital for the first time since the ceasefire came into effect.

In this context, the “Lebanon Debate” correspondent reported that the target in the Haret Hreik raid was the commander of the Radwan Force in Hezbollah, Ahmed Ghaleb Ballout, noting that today his body was pulled from under the rubble along with about 4 other bodies, days after the raid that targeted the area near Bahman Hospital.

The Israeli raid sparked a widespread wave of escalation, after Israeli media reported targeting a prominent Hezbollah leader, while the Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed at the time that the operation came as a direct decision from the Israeli political leadership, as part of what it described as a policy of “thwarting threats.”

Israeli reports also indicated that the operation was carried out “in coordination with the United States,” at a time when Israeli circles considered that targeting the southern suburb constituted a dangerous field shift that raised the level of tension on the Lebanese front.

These developments coincided with a widespread escalation in southern Lebanon over the past few days, as Israel intensified its raids on several towns, in parallel with operations that Hezbollah announced it would carry out against Israeli army positions and gatherings, amid mutual warnings and fears of an expansion of the confrontation.
