The Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Antiquities announced the receipt of pieces of lead coffins dating back to the Roman era, through the Lebanese Consulate in New York, represented by Consul General Talal Daher.
The Ministry explained, in a statement, that these pieces were illegally smuggled from the city of Tyre, before they were recovered after follow-up by the General Directorate of Antiquities, which is responsible for protecting cultural property, and in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
It is expected that these pieces will be delivered to the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Antiquities at a later time.
