Within the framework of monitoring the conditions of citizens and basic services, the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, made a field trip to the Beirut Civil Registry, where he was briefed on the progress of work and the mechanism for completing transactions, especially those belonging to the people of the capital and those displaced from the affected areas.
The minister was accompanied on his tour by the acting Director General of Personal Status, Rodina Merheb, who stressed “the necessity of accelerating procedures and improving the level of services provided,” in light of the increasing pressure on official departments as a result of internal displacement.
Al-Hajjar also listened to the civil registries of the regions of Nabatieh, Marjayoun, Tyre, Mays al-Jabal, Joya, Jbaa and Tibnine, who presented the difficulties they faced during the transfer of official records from their regions to the General Directorate of Personal Status in Beirut, as a precautionary step to protect citizens’ files from Israeli bombing.
The Minister stressed the necessity of “providing all facilities to the displaced families to complete their transactions,” directing that everything necessary be provided to ensure the smooth progress of work, noting that the General Directorate of Personal Status is working to take additional and exceptional measures to facilitate citizens’ affairs at this delicate stage.
This step comes in light of great pressure on official administrations, with a number of services moving from the border areas to Beirut, which imposes logistical and administrative challenges that require a rapid response to maintain the continuity of public services.
In a related context, Al-Hajjar received MP Elias Hankash in his office, where they discussed the general situation and development affairs, within the framework of coordination between the executive and legislative authorities to keep pace with the current challenges.
This move reflects the Ministry of Interior’s intention to enhance administrative preparedness, especially in the personal status file, which constitutes a basic pillar in the lives of citizens, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances that Lebanon is going through.
