Kataib Hezbollah: Suspension of operations against the American embassy as pressure mounts on the suburb

Reuters reported that the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades announced a freeze in its offensive operations against the US Embassy in Baghdad for five days, stressing that this suspension is linked to achieving a series of demands.

According to a statement attributed to the group and issued on March 19, 2026, the Secretary-General of the Phalange issued instructions to stop targeting the American embassy in Baghdad for a period of five days, provided that this stop coincides with the fulfillment of a number of conditions.

The conditions mentioned in the statement included the following:

Stop what the statement described as “the bombing and bombing of the suburbs of Beirut.”

Commitment not to bomb residential areas in Baghdad and the provinces.

Withdrawing CIA personnel from their positions and keeping them inside the embassy, with the exception of the Kurdistan region.

The statement included a warning that if these conditions were not complied with, the response would be immediate and focused, with the intensity of the strikes increasing after the specified deadline expired.

The statement also called on the government and security services to protect diplomatic missions and economic entities as long as their countries are not involved in the war, with the exception of what the statement described as Israeli elements and American forces.

The statement stressed that the next stage will witness an escalation if the demands are not met, pointing out that this decision comes in light of the rapid regional developments.

This announcement comes in the midst of increasing tension in the region, with the expansion of clashes between various parties, which affects the situation in Iraq and increases fears of it sliding into a broader security escalation.
