The Jordanian Cabinet agreed to supply Lebanon with natural gas via a floating ship in the port of Aqaba, in cooperation with Syria, within the framework of continuing to support Lebanon in the energy sector and contribute to securing an additional source of electricity production.
According to what was reported by the Jordanian News Agency, Petra, the decision comes within the Jordanian national strategy for the energy sector, which aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional center for energy exchange and green energy production, by taking advantage of the advanced infrastructure of electricity and gas networks.
According to the agreements, Jordan will import gas and convert it from liquid to gaseous state using the existing infrastructure in the Kingdom, including the onshore gas unit and transportation lines extending from southern to northern Jordan.
The gas is then scheduled to be passed through Syrian territory to Lebanon, which will contribute to securing an energy source that can be used in producing electricity.
The decision, according to the Jordanian side, comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s standing by Lebanon and providing possible support in the energy sector based on the available capabilities and infrastructure.
Since the beginning of this year, Jordan has continued to supply Syria with gas according to the same mechanism that will be adopted to supply Lebanon.
