Al-Hajjar and the United Nations: coordination on displacement and field measures

Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, continues to follow developments in the field situation in the country, with a special focus on the issue of displacement and the measures taken to confront the current circumstances that Lebanon is going through in light of the security challenges.

In this context, Al-Hajjar received in his office the “Deputy Special Coordinator of the United Nations in Lebanon and Humanitarian Coordinator, Imran Riza,” where the general conditions in Lebanon and the region were reviewed, with a focus on the conditions of displaced non-Lebanese.

He also met with Representative Ahmed Al-Khair, and the latest developments and general conditions in the country were discussed.

The Minister of the Interior held a regular meeting via video communication technology with the governors from the central operations room in the ministry, as part of his daily follow-up of field developments and reviewing the progress of work in the various governorates and the measures taken to address the current circumstances.

During the meeting, Al-Hajjar listened to the governors about the latest developments in their regions, especially with regard to the displacement movement and the efforts made to help the population.

The Minister stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of the situation and submitting reports to the central operations room, in order to ensure a rapid response to any emergency.

He also stressed the need to give the displaced persons’ file the highest priority, follow up on their conditions and meet their basic needs, in conjunction with monitoring the security situation on the ground and taking the necessary measures to maintain stability.

This meeting comes in light of the increasing internal displacement movement in Lebanon as a result of the Israeli raids that targeted various areas, especially in the south, the Bekaa, and some areas near the capital, which prompted thousands of families to leave their homes and head to safer areas.

The Ministry of Interior is working in coordination with governors, municipalities, security agencies and international organizations to monitor field conditions and provide shelter centers and basic assistance to displaced families, at a time when official efforts are intensifying to confront the humanitarian and security repercussions of the current developments in the country.
