President Joseph concluded an official visit to Spain and returned to Beirut this evening, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Rajji, and his accompanying delegation.
During this visit, President Joseph met with King Felipe VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, where the importance of developing relations and strengthening ties between the two countries was stressed.
Spain’s participation in the conference to support the Lebanese Army, scheduled to be held in Paris next month, was also confirmed, in addition to discussing the possibility of its contribution of forces to a European force in the south under the auspices of the United Nations, after the end of the UNIFIL mission.
During the visit, three agreements were signed between the two countries.
The President of the Republic’s visit to Spain comes within the framework of a diplomatic tour aimed at activating Lebanon’s role on the international scene and confirming Lebanon’s openness to its European partners, in light of the difficult circumstances that Lebanon is going through on the political and economic levels. The visit was considered an important milestone that embodies the strength of the historical relations between Lebanon and Spain, and reflects the desire of both parties to enhance mutual cooperation, in the face of internal challenges and regional pressures that, according to official sources, require expanding the scope of diplomatic support and strengthening Lebanon’s position on the international map.
