In an unexpected move, yesterday, Monday, former US President Joe Biden praised his successor, Donald Trump, after the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey signed the comprehensive document for the “Gaza Agreement” for peace, which was announced at the Sharm El-Sheikh summit.

Biden wrote in a post on his account on the “X” platform: “I feel profound gratitude and great relief that this day has come… for the last twenty hostages alive who lived through incredible hell, and who were finally reunited with their loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who suffered terrible losses, and will now have a chance to rebuild their lives.”

Biden added: “The path to this agreement was not easy. My administration worked tirelessly to return hostages to their homes, secure relief for Palestinian civilians and end the war,” before concluding: “I commend President Trump and his team for their efforts to reach a renewed ceasefire agreement.”

Biden continued: “Now, with the support of the international community, the Middle East is moving towards a sustainable peace that guarantees dignity and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”

The document was signed on Monday evening, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Before leaving Sharm El-Sheikh, Trump said: “We succeeded in what everyone thought was impossible… We now have peace in the Middle East,” stressing that “the agreement includes detailed rules and arrangements that guarantee its continuity.”

This agreement is seen as the most important diplomatic achievement in years in the region, as it opens the door to a new phase of stability after months of devastating war in Gaza.
