The head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service, Martin Jaeger, said that Russia represents a direct threat to Europe, warning that the current cold peace could turn into a military confrontation at any moment.
Yeager stressed before the German Parliament that Russia seeks to expand its influence westward, and may not hesitate to confront NATO militarily if necessary. He pointed out that Moscow uses election manipulation, propaganda, air provocations, espionage and sabotage as means to destabilize Europe.
In turn, the new head of the German domestic intelligence agency pointed to clear Russian violations in airspace during September, including drones and fighter aircraft, stressing that Russia is acting aggressively and an increasing escalation poses a real threat to the continent’s security.
