In a visit that brought sensitive Lebanese files to the Serbian capital, Belgrade, the Minister of National Defense, Major General Michel Mansi, discussed with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Djuro Matsot, the future of the international presence in southern Lebanon, in parallel with ways to develop relations between the two countries.
The meeting came within the framework of Mansi’s visit to Belgrade to represent the President of the Lebanese Republic in the activities of the conference held on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement, in the presence of Lebanon’s Ambassador to Serbia, Youssef Jabr.
The discussion discussed Lebanese-Serbian relations and ways to develop them in various possible fields, in addition to the options available for the phase following the end of the missions of the international forces operating in the south at the end of this year.
The two sides also touched on the general conditions that Lebanon is going through, at the forefront of which is the situation in the south.
In this context, Mansi stressed the importance of friendly countries’ continued support for the Lebanese Army, thanking Serbia for always standing by the Lebanese people and the military institution.
For his part, Matsot expressed his appreciation for Lebanon’s firm position in support of respect for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
