Lebanese Minister of Justice Adel Nassar rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal, in which he indicated the possibility that Syria would assume the task of “dealing with Hezbollah” in Lebanon instead of Israel.

In an interview with Becky Anderson on CNN, as part of the “Connecting the World” program, Nassar stressed that disarming Hezbollah is the responsibility of the Lebanese state, and not the task of any foreign forces.

Nassar said: “This is not about sending foreign forces to do the job. Lebanon has suffered for years from foreign interference, and if Hezbollah today is an Iranian proxy, it is because of Iran’s interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.”

US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal had attacked Trump against the backdrop of his proposal to involve Syria in the issue of dealing with Hezbollah, considering that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun instead needs more support in confronting Hezbollah.

Trump had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Israel dealt with Lebanon and Hezbollah, revealing that he had proposed to Tel Aviv the idea of Syria taking over “Hezbollah’s affairs.”

Trump also pointed out that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa “did a wonderful job and was able to unite his country,” considering that he is the right person to restore order when talking about this organization.
