Social networking sites were filled with a sarcastic picture of Representative Michel Moawad, in which he appeared with a long beard and without a mustache, against the backdrop of his positions in support of a comprehensive amnesty for Islamist detainees at the expense of the martyrs of the military establishment.
The photo sparked a wide wave of sarcastic comments, as activists considered that Moawad had “gone too far” in his flirtation with Islamists, while others expressed their surprise at the change in his political discourse in this direction.
Observers saw that this positioning is not new for Moawad and his family, considering that their political history has always been based on a policy of appeasement and adaptation to the balance of power, from the stage of the relationship with the Syrian regime during the era of Hafez al-Assad, to joining the sovereign line, and today to the attempt to get closer to Ahmed al-Sharaa and address the Islamic street with a populist discourse that raises many question marks.
According to sarcastic comments, the “new version” of Moawad is only looking to “beg” for additional electoral votes, even if it requires moving from the side of the “state” to the side of the “Islamists,” in a scene that activists described as “the fastest political transformation since the winds changed in the region.”
