Yesterday, Thursday, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, received a phone call from the Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, during which ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Lebanon and Syria in various fields were discussed.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated that the two sides stressed during the call the depth of relations between the two countries, and discussed files of economic and commercial cooperation and the energy sector, in addition to mechanisms for developing joint coordination in the next stage.
Al-Shaibani stressed Syria’s keenness and full readiness to continue supporting everything that would enhance bilateral cooperation, in a way that achieves the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
The two parties also stressed the importance of continuing work to establish the “Joint Coordination Committee,” as a practical step to translate the results of the recent visit made by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to Damascus.
This contact comes within the framework of the ongoing political movement between Beirut and Damascus after Salam’s visit to Syria at the beginning of this month, which dealt with vital issues related to energy, the economy, reconstruction, and joint coordination between the two countries.
In the recent period, Lebanese-Syrian relations have witnessed attempts to reactivate official communication channels, especially in economic and service files related to energy, trade exchange, and border crossings, in light of the economic challenges facing the two countries.
