The Israeli army spokeswoman, Captain Ella Wawiyeh, announced at dawn on Friday that the army’s surveillance forces detected a “suspicious movement” of two gunmen hundreds of meters from the border with Israel in southern Lebanon, before they were targeted by an air strike.

Wawiya said, in a post on the “X” platform, that the forces continuously followed the two militants in the field, adding that “as soon as they were spotted, they were attacked and eliminated in an air strike.”

She added that Israeli forces operating in the area began combing operations following the raid, stressing that “no indications were found indicating the presence of additional suspects.”

The Israeli spokeswoman indicated that the army “maintains continuous contact with the towns,” stressing that any subsequent developments related to the incident will be announced.

This development comes in light of the continued security tension on the southern border, despite international efforts aimed at establishing the ceasefire and preventing the situation from sliding into a broader confrontation.

During recent months, the border area has witnessed repeated targeting operations and continuous Israeli raids, which Tel Aviv says come within the framework of preventing any movements or threats near the border, while Lebanese parties accuse Israel of continuing to violate existing understandings and field escalation within Lebanese territory.

This escalation is being recorded at a time when the southern front is witnessing a constant state of alert, amid flights of Israeli drones and separate raids targeting towns and border areas, in conjunction with repeated international warnings of the danger of the confrontation expanding in southern Lebanon.
