Ahmed Al-Assir’s wife sent a strongly worded letter to the Prime Minister, the Mufti of the Republic, and a number of representatives of the Sunni sect, against the backdrop of the general amnesty law file, calling for the rejection of any formula that does not include the detainees whom she considers directly concerned with this law.
In the details, an audio recording attributed to her spread, containing sharp expressions and direct criticism, as she considered that what was happening in the amnesty file was approached in a fragmented manner and did not take into account the conditions of the detainees, warning of the repercussions of any decision that might be taken in this regard, and directing calls for protest movements in the event that her demands were not met.
She also stressed in the recording that any settlement or political “compromise” in this file is unacceptable, considering that what is happening constitutes an injustice against a group of detainees, while her message included a highly escalatory tone towards the political and religious parties concerned with the file.
This recording comes in light of the intense political debate surrounding the draft general amnesty law, and increasing pressure from various parties to push it towards approval or amendment, amid a clear division in positions within the Lebanese arena.
