Representative Jamil Al-Sayyed reopened the discussion on the option of direct negotiations between the party and the United States, considering that the position announced by US Ambassador Michel Issa during his visit to the Supreme Shiite Islamic Council constitutes a positive development in this direction.
Al-Sayed said, in a post on the “X” platform, that US Ambassador Michel Issa visited the Supreme Shiite Council today, and he was quoted as saying: “We say to the Shiite environment that we want its interests and are ready to negotiate with Hezbollah through the state.”
Al-Sayed considered that “this American position is good,” noting that it was preceded, according to him, by an American security offer from outside the framework of the American embassy to negotiate directly with the party.
He added that, more than two months ago, he was one of the first to publicly call for direct negotiations between the party and the United States.
In justifying this position, Al-Sayyed believed that the Lebanese state, when it negotiated in Washington recently, “gave up everything to Israel as a result of its weakness and fear,” as he put it, without obtaining anything in return for Lebanon.
He continued that the situation in the south has worsened, while the state, as he described it, is now content with denouncing the media and calling on the international community to deter Israel.
Al-Sayed concluded by stressing that he still adheres to his previous position calling for direct negotiation.
