The Public Basic Education Teachers Association entered the line of objection to the 2027 draft budget, demanding that salaries and wages be raised 30 times as of the beginning of next year, and declaring its commitment to any move decided by public sector associations during the budget discussion in the Council of Ministers.
The association said, in a statement following a meeting held via the “Zoom” application, that it discussed the current developments, especially the draft 2027 budget submitted by the Ministry of Finance to the government for discussion and approval, without including salary increases, in light of the difficult living reality and declining purchasing power.
The attendees demanded a 30-fold increase in salaries and wages starting from January 1, 2027, a demand that the Council of Ministers had put forward in its session on February 16, 2026.
The Association also announced its commitment to the actions decided by public sector associations in conjunction with the holding of Cabinet sessions dedicated to discussing the draft budget.
She stressed not to compromise the rights of teachers, and to continue taking action to achieve the demands, calling on all teachers, including association representatives, delegates and teachers, to participate extensively in any movement aimed at achieving rights.
She concluded by emphasizing that “demands should not be taken as wishful thinking.”
