In a move it described as positive, the US Embassy in Beirut welcomed Israel’s release of prisoners within the framework of the tripartite mechanism between Lebanon and Israel.
The embassy said, in a post on the “X” platform, that this step constitutes a positive development, calling on the two sides to continue building on this momentum before the next round of talks.
The American position comes after the Lebanese Army received, through the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Mansouri area, the four Lebanese prisoners who were released by Israel, before transferring them to the Benoit Barakat barracks in Tyre.
This step was preceded yesterday, Thursday, when Lebanon handed over prisoner Malik Kamal Ghazi through the International Committee of the Red Cross at the Naqoura crossing, after Israel released him. Ghazi, 20 years old, went missing in the Ain Atta-Rashaya area in October 2025 while he was out exercising, before information later emerged about his transfer to Israel.
Thus, the release of the four prisoners came today, the day after Ghazi’s surrender, as part of the movement related to the prisoner file between Lebanon and Israel.
