On the anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badr al-Din, the Progressive Socialist Party affirmed that the issue of their disappearance is still an open wound in the national memory, stressing that knowing the truth is an established right that does not lapse with the passage of time or changing circumstances.
The party’s Information Commission said, in a statement, that Imam al-Sadr represented a prominent milestone in the history of Lebanon, because of his call for rapprochement between the Lebanese, his bias towards social justice, and his belief in dialogue, coexistence, and the finality of the Lebanese entity.
Al-Taqadudi believed that these principles today gain double importance in light of the ongoing Israeli attacks and plans aimed, according to the statement, at annexing Lebanese lands, and the accompanying attempts to strike the country’s unity and threaten its sovereignty.
The party renewed its demand to reveal the full circumstances of the issue of the disappearance of Imam al-Sadr and his two companions, stressing that loyalty to his legacy requires preserving civil peace, strengthening national partnership, and adhering to Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty.
He also stressed the rejection of all promoted division or dismantling projects, considering that preserving the country’s unity remains at the core of the principles that Imam al-Sadr carried and defended.
The case of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr dates back to August 31, 1978, when he disappeared during an official visit to Libya accompanied by Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badr al-Din, in a case that has remained open politically and judicially since then, amid continuous Lebanese demands to reveal their fate and the full circumstances of their disappearance.
