The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, arrived at the Nihad Noufal Stadium in Zouk Mikael, to watch the Lebanese basketball team’s match against its South Korean counterpart, in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup.
Before the start of the second half, President Aoun met with the Lebanese national team players, in a step aimed at morally supporting them and encouraging them during the important confrontation in the qualifying round.
Aoun’s visit to the stadium carried a sign of support for the national team, with a crowd attending that accompanied the confrontation and encouraged the players in their quest to achieve a positive result that would enhance Lebanon’s chances of continuing its journey towards the World Cup.
The confrontation with South Korea is an important stage in the qualifiers, given the strength of the Korean team and its experience at the continental level, while the Lebanese team is counting on the ground staff, the audience, and its prominent record in Asian basketball.
Basketball enjoys wide popular popularity in Lebanon, after the team established its presence among the most prominent Asian teams and participated in several international and continental championships, making its international matches a national occasion that attracts great official and popular interest.
The presidential presence confirms the importance of supporting Lebanese sports and national teams, especially in international competitions that raise Lebanon’s name and unite the Lebanese behind its banner.
