A fire broke out inside a tourist boat in the Ramlet El Bayda area in Beirut, as a result of an electrical short, before members of the Lebanese Civil Defense were able to control the fire and extinguish it completely.
The Department of Information and Public Relations at the General Directorate of Civil Defense reported that upon their arrival at the scene, the personnel worked to combat the fire and prevent it from spreading to additional parts of the boat, until they succeeded in extinguishing it completely.
The Civil Defense statement did not indicate any human casualties as a result of the accident, nor did it specify the extent of the material damage to the boat.
Faults and electrical installations constitute one of the most prominent causes of fires inside boats, due to the presence of sources of fuel and highly flammable materials in a limited space, which raises the risk of the fire expanding rapidly and makes immediate intervention necessary to avoid aggravation of the accident.
The safety of tourist boats requires regular maintenance of batteries, wires and electrical panels, ensuring that there are no fuel leaks, in addition to equipping them with usable extinguishers and alarm and fire-fighting systems.
The Beirut waterfront, especially the vicinity of Ramlet El Bayda, witnesses constant movement of tourist and recreational boats, which doubles the importance of adhering to safety procedures and regular technical inspections, especially during periods of intense operation.
