Representative Yassin Yassin confirmed that the draft telecommunications law that he submitted with MPs Paula Yacoubian and Halima Al-Qaqour constitutes an entry point for reforming the telecommunications sector in Lebanon, by updating existing legislation in line with the technical and digital developments that the sector has witnessed in recent years.
Yassin’s words came after an informal meeting that included the Chairman of the Media and Communications Committee, MP Dr. Ibrahim Al-Moussawi, and a number of committee members, devoted to deliberating the draft law and preparing to begin discussing it within the relevant legislative frameworks.
He pointed out that the draft, which was submitted to the Parliament on September 24, 2025, was subject to legal and technical studies and reviews before its submission, with the aim of arriving at a modern text that keeps pace with best practices in regulating the telecommunications sector.
Yassin explained that the proposed law is not limited to replacing the current text, but rather establishes a more modern legal framework that enhances governance and transparency, protects users’ rights, and takes into account the rapid development in communications and technology services.
He concluded by stressing that the upcoming parliamentary debate represents an opportunity to approve modern legislation that keeps pace with the requirements of the digital economy, and establishes a more efficient and sustainable communications sector, in line with the needs of citizens and the requirements of development in Lebanon.
