Bloomberg reported, citing ship tracking data, that shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz witnessed an almost complete halt early Tuesday morning, in light of the escalation of the military confrontation in the region.
This comes after the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that the two national carriers, Mombasa and Al Bahia, were targeted by two Iranian cruise missiles while they were in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.
The Ministry explained that the attack led to the martyrdom of an Indian crew member of the Mombasa tanker, and the injury of 8 others, including 4 serious injuries, noting that the injured were 6 Indians and two Ukrainians.
She added that a fire broke out in the two tankers and caused material damage before it was brought under control, stressing that the UAE reserves its full right to respond and take the necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty and national interests.
On the other hand, the US military announced, on Tuesday, the completion of a new wave of strikes against Iran for the third night in a row, explaining that the operations aimed to weaken Tehran’s ability to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
