The spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced that the Saudi air defenses dealt with a threat represented by ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group towards the southern region of the Kingdom.

Al-Maliki explained that the air defense systems intercepted the missiles and dealt with them, within the framework of military measures aimed at protecting the Kingdom’s lands and the safety of civilians and vital installations, without revealing further details regarding the extent of the damage or potential losses.

This development comes in light of the continuing security tension in the region, with the escalation of the regional confrontation and the expansion of missile and drone attacks, which raises the level of military preparedness in a number of Gulf countries.

The southern region of Saudi Arabia is one of the regions most exposed to missile and drone attacks launched by the Houthi group since the outbreak of the war in Yemen, as the group has targeted during the past years airports, oil facilities, and civilian and military facilities inside the Kingdom.

Despite the decline in the frequency of attacks during periods of calm and negotiations, recent regional developments have revived fears of a widening scope of the confrontation, in light of the continuing cross-border threats and the high level of military alert in the region.
