Representative Jamil Al-Sayyed sparked political controversy after commenting on the announcement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raji, that France would request an emergency session of the UN Security Council against the backdrop of the Israeli escalation in Lebanon.
Raji had announced that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot informed him that Paris would submit a request to hold an emergency session of the Security Council due to the expansion of Israeli military operations and evacuation orders in Lebanon. He indicated that the French side renewed its solidarity with Lebanon and its commitment to respect its full sovereignty. It also affirmed its support for direct negotiations as the only way to reach a permanent and sustainable solution to the crisis.
Commenting on this position, Jamil Al-Sayyed wrote on the “X” platform: “Latest news: French Foreign Minister Jean Barrot informed Foreign Minister Youssef Raji that France will request an emergency session of the Security Council due to the Israeli escalation in Lebanon.”
He added sarcastically: “Will Raji answer him: Why did you come before us with the complaint?! This is blatant interference on your part! Will you withdraw it now or I will do to you as you did to the Iranian ambassador!!”
Al-Sayed concluded his post by saying: “But I hope not.”
