The President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, received at Baabda Palace a series of political, educational and legal meetings, during which he followed up on the situation in the Lebanese regions and security and political developments, in addition to educational and university files related to the governance of the security sector.

In the most prominent meetings, President Aoun received a delegation of representatives from the Free Patriotic Movement, which included Representatives George Atallah, Salim Aoun, Nicolas Al-Sahnawi, Samer Al-Toum and Cesar Abi Khalil, where they discussed current developments, Israeli attacks and ongoing negotiations, in addition to the amnesty law file.

After the meeting, Representative Cesar Abi Khalil affirmed that “the diplomatic path is the only remaining option to achieve a ceasefire and protect the Lebanese and Lebanese lands,” denouncing the campaign that targeted the President of the Republic and the position of the presidency, considering it a “red line.”

The delegation also announced its refusal to approve a general amnesty that “reinforces a culture of impunity,” calling for any injustice to be addressed within legal frameworks and trials to be expedited instead of resorting to a comprehensive amnesty.

Educationally, President Aoun received a delegation from the Parliamentary Education Committee headed by MP Hassan Murad and members of MPs Bilal Hashimi and Ashraf Baydoun, where the family’s educational concerns related to official exams and the security and social conditions that students go through were presented.

Murad revealed an emergency consultative meeting that the committee will hold with members of the educational family, confirming that President Aoun will hand over a memorandum containing observations and proposals related to the mechanism for conducting official exams.

In another context, President Aoun received a delegation from the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), headed by Nathalie Schwar, where they discussed enhancing cooperation with the Lebanese security services and human rights bodies.

President Aoun was also briefed by the President of the American University of Beirut, Dr. Fadlo Khuri, on the university reality, where he informed him that the number of Lebanese, Arab and foreign students registered for the next academic year recorded the highest level in half a century.
