“Lebanon Debate”

Information Minister Paul Morcos said after the routine ministerial meeting in the government palace that a cabinet session will be held initially next Friday, with the final date to be decided within the next few hours, indicating that the discussion dealt with political, financial and security files related to the internal and regional situation.

He explained that the Prime Minister began the meeting by briefing the ministers on the course of the ongoing negotiations, pointing out the continued follow-up of practical arrangements related to the ceasefire in light of the delicate regional conditions.

The latest developments related to the Israeli attacks were also presented, with emphasis on Lebanon’s request for the High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Lebanon as soon as possible, and to work on forming a fact-finding mission in preparation for presenting the file before the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The Minister of Information indicated that the ministers presented during the session the most prominent challenges facing their ministries, especially with regard to public finance, as the Minister of Finance confirmed the availability of salaries in public administrations during the next stage despite the repercussions of the war and the existing pressures on public finances.

He added that the research also addressed ways to enhance collection, especially revenues related to value-added tax, in addition to discussing mechanisms for securing the financial needs of ministries and public administrations and improving imports in light of the current challenges.
