The newspaper “Israel Hayom” reported that the government of “Benjamin Netanyahu” plans to discuss the Lebanese laws that criminalize recognition of Israel in Washington meetings, with the aim of pressing for their repeal.
The newspaper reported that Israel will raise the Lebanese law that prohibits recognizing it or holding meetings with it, during the second round of talks scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday.
It is expected that this round between Lebanon and Israel will take place at the ambassadorial level in the United States, within the course of the ongoing negotiations between the two parties.
It is noteworthy that the first round of discussions was held in Washington on April 14, where three days later the two parties reached a ceasefire agreement for a period of 10 days, which can be extended with the approval of both parties.
In a related context, the Presidency of the Republic announced the authorization of a Lebanese delegation headed by former Ambassador to the United States, Simon Karam, to lead negotiations with the Israeli side.
The agreement stipulates a fixed-term truce, with Israel reserving the right to respond to any threat, in addition to Lebanon’s pledge to take measures to prevent any attacks, with the Lebanese security forces remaining the sole authority responsible for security, with American mediation continuing to facilitate negotiations.
