"A deep crisis of confidence": Fayyad directs sharp criticism of the authority and calls for calm

Representative Ali Fayyad, a member of the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc, stressed the importance of understanding spontaneous popular movements, explaining that they were “not motivated by political forces,” and that citizens are “angry, hurt, and anxious.” He added that there is a “deep crisis of trust morally, politically and nationally” between the people and the authorities, stressing that “nothing in the street is higher than blood, massacres, displacement and destruction.”

On LBC, Fayyad stated that “the street is right and its compass is correct,” but at the same time he called for attention to sectarian rhetoric, noting that “the battle is national, not sectarian.”

He also stated that the street “does not seek any internal strife, is against any internal fighting, and does not want to slide into what some seek to do in a street-versus-street situation,” and explained that the issue is “exclusively related to the wrong policies of the authorities.”

Fayyad considered that “the authority has delved into sin, and the street’s anger at it is completely justified,” stressing that “the street is the guarantee, the solid shield, and the fortified fence.”

At the conclusion of his speech, he appealed to “all brothers and comrades to adhere to the joint statement issued by the Amal Movement and Hezbollah, and to stop the demonstrations out of consideration and appreciation for the precision and criticality of the current political moment.”
