بعد تصعيد جنوبي… بري يوقف الاكتفاء ببيانات الشجب

In light of this ongoing Israeli escalation in the south, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri followed the field developments resulting from the Israeli air aggression that targeted the towns of “Qanarit,” “al-Kharayeb,” “al-Kfour,” “Jarjouh,” and “Ansar” this evening, causing widespread destruction of property, in addition to casualties and injuries, including journalists.

In this context, President Berri directed the relevant departments in the Civil Defense of the Islamic Scout Association, the Social Services Office of the Amal Movement, and the concerned municipalities to place all their capabilities at the disposal of families whose homes were damaged and rendered homeless as a result of the continuous Israeli aggression against Lebanon.

President Berri commented on these attacks, saying: “Statements of condemnation are no longer useful for Lebanon and the Lebanese people. What saves Lebanon, liberates its land, and fortifies it in the face of Israeli aggression is national unity, then national unity.”

He added: “Mercy to the martyrs, and a speedy recovery to the wounded who fell today, especially the journalists among them.”

President Berri’s position comes amidst a field day that witnessed a sharp escalation in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli warplanes launched a series of violent raids, following prior warnings and threats, targeting several towns, most notably “Qanarit,” “al-Kharayeb,” “al-Kfour,” “Jarjouh,” and “Ansar,” causing massive damage to homes and infrastructure, and causing displacement among the population.

The Israeli army had issued successive evacuation warnings in the past hours, accompanied by threats and drawings of buildings it claimed would be targeted, before beginning to launch warning raids, followed by direct strikes, amid intensive flights of drones and warplanes at low altitudes.

Injuries were recorded during the raids among civilians and journalists who were covering the field developments, in addition to damage to media equipment and cars, while the Ministry of Health announced the registration of dozens of injuries in some of the towns that were bombed.

The day also witnessed a widening in the scope of the attacks, as it included targeting border areas and inside Syrian territory adjacent to Lebanon, as raids were carried out on crossings on the Lebanese-Syrian border, in a clear escalation that coincided with an Israeli announcement about targeting what it described as smuggling routes.

This acceleration in the pace of attacks, and the transition from the stage of warnings to actual implementation, reflects the extent of the current Israeli escalation, in light of repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty, and the continuation of threats to expand the circle of targeting, which increases the concern of the residents and puts the south in front of an open day on dangerous possibilities.
