طقس قارس ورياح شديدة تلوح في الأفق.. توقعات بتقلبات جوية حادة!

Lebanon is witnessing significant weather changes in the coming days, due to an approaching cold air depression, which will lead to rainfall, increased winds, and a decrease in temperatures. What is the impact of these weather changes on the coastal and inland areas?

In this context, the researcher in weather and climate science, engineer Ali Jaber, explained to that “the latest weather maps indicate a clear change in the weather situation over the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea in the coming days, with Lebanon gradually being affected by a cold air depression accompanied by rain, wind, and a decrease in temperatures.”

Jaber added that “the current situation is characterized by relatively stable weather with scattered clouds, and temperatures remain slightly higher than their seasonal rates on the coasts, in addition to moderate winds and a gradual increase in humidity levels.”

He pointed out that “the beginning of the changes will appear on Saturday evening with the approach of a low air pressure centered over southwestern Turkey, to begin its impact on Lebanon through a gradual increase in clouds, scattered rainfall at night, especially on the coast and north, and a clear activity in wind speed.”

As for the peak of this depression, it will be on Sunday, where the country will witness what Jaber described as a “mild to moderate winter storm,” and he expected the following during it:

-Heavy rain at times, especially at dawn and Sunday morning,

-Winds may exceed 55–65 km/h on the coasts,

-A decrease in temperature by 4–7 degrees compared to previous days,

-Snowfall on the high mountains, where the borders will be between 2200–2400 meters in the morning, and may drop to 2000–2100 meters with increased cold at night.

Regarding the beginning of next week, Jaber stated that “the weather will continue to be unstable but at a lighter pace during Monday and Tuesday, with expectations of intermittent rain and wide breaks during the day, and noticeable cold in the mountains and the interior, in addition to high humidity and the possibility of fog formation on the heights.”

He concluded his speech by explaining that “the sea will be turbulent to rough during the peak of the depression, calling for caution in areas exposed to wind or water accumulation.”
