Threats to disarm Hamas and exchange of accusations of violating the ceasefire agreement.

A senior US official escalated the threatening tone towards Hamas, hinting at the possibility of forcibly disarming it if it does not respond voluntarily.

The official stated in a press statement that “the disarmament of Hamas will happen, and if it is not done as required, the necessary measures will be taken,” describing the movement as “adopting violence,” in reference to recent developments.

Despite this tone, the official clarified that “there is no specific timeline” for the disarmament process, while ruling out sending foreign troops to the region.

This position coincides with the exchange of accusations between the parties concerned with violating the ceasefire agreement, with threats looming of further military operations.

In contrast, the movement denies any violation of the agreement, stressing that there is no evidence of any violation on its part.

It is noteworthy that similar statements have been issued recently regarding disarming Hamas “by force” if weapons are not surrendered voluntarily within a “reasonable time,” without specifying a clear timeframe.

These statements come in the context of proposals aimed at changing the status quo, which stipulate transforming the region into a demilitarized zone administered under international supervision, along with the deployment of a stabilization force and the training of a local security apparatus with international support.
