The General Directorate of Civil Defense, in cooperation with the World Health Organization – Lebanon Office, launched an awareness and training campaign on water safety and the prevention of drowning accidents, starting from Ramlet El Bayda Beach in Beirut.

The launch of the campaign was attended by the Director General of Civil Defense, Brigadier General Imad Khuraish, the representative of the World Health Organization and head of its mission in Lebanon, Dr. Ahmed Zouiten, and Dr. Rasha Hamra, technical officer for health promotion in the organization – Lebanon office.

The first activity included a theoretical lecture that addressed the dangers of drowning, ways to prevent it, and safety instructions that must be followed, followed by a practical exercise on how to deal with drowning cases.

The activity witnessed the distribution of floatation boards designated for teaching swimming, as part of supporting water safety awareness and reducing the risk of drowning.

The campaign aims to educate citizens about the dangers of drowning, and enhance community awareness of water safety measures and prevention methods, which contributes to reducing unintentional injuries and protecting lives.

The campaign is scheduled to continue by organizing similar awareness and training activities in a number of Lebanese coastal regions, including Tyre, Sidon, Damour, Byblos, Amchit and Tripoli, with the aim of expanding awareness and spreading the culture of water safety along the coast.

The campaign comes in conjunction with the Civil Defense warning citizens and residents against swimming and other marine activities along the Lebanese coast, due to the high waves and strong sea currents and the risks they pose to public safety.
