The Italian capital, Rome, is preparing to host a new round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel next September, as part of diplomatic efforts to continue the dialogue between the two sides, amid Italian emphasis on the importance of this path for peace in Lebanon and the region.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Taiani announced, according to what was reported by “Sky News Arabia,” that “the next round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel will be in Rome next month.”
He considered that “holding negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in Rome next month means that we are contributing to building peace in Lebanon, and thus in the Middle East.”
Rome had previously hosted negotiating rounds between the two sides with American facilitation, including talks held on July 14 and 15, followed by a round in August, within the track related to the framework agreement signed on June 26. The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed that these meetings aim to reach joint solutions that allow the implementation of the agreement.
Previous talks focused on the “pilot zones” mechanism, which includes the disarmament of armed groups and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south, in parallel with a gradual Israeli withdrawal, within the arrangements emerging from the framework agreement.
