The Ministry of Public Health denounced in the strongest terms the attack against a doctor inside the emergency department of Tripoli Governmental Hospital, after a patient’s companions attacked him with a sharp object, which led to him being injured while performing his professional and humanitarian duty.
The Ministry confirmed in a statement that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of the sanctity of hospital institutions and a direct attack on the medical and nursing staff, in addition to being a violation of the security and dignity of every citizen who goes to hospitals to receive treatment.
She stressed that protecting medical facilities and ensuring the complete safety of health teams and workers in the hospital sector represents a top priority for the Minister of Public Health, Rakan Nasser Al-Din, noting that the Minister is personally following up on the details of the incident and the ongoing investigations with the relevant security and judicial authorities to ensure that the aggressors are pursued and that they are not tolerated.
The Ministry called on the Lebanese judiciary to take the necessary legal measures and impose the harshest penalties on those involved, to ensure the deterrence of any similar attack on hospitals and their workers.
The Ministry concluded its statement by wishing the injured doctor a speedy recovery, stressing its continued commitment to protecting the health sector and providing a safe environment for its workers and citizens who visit medical and hospital institutions.
