Recently, the outcry of citizens in the city of Choueifat rose after they received bills for electricity generators, after their owners agreed on a price ranging between one dollar and one and a half dollars per kilowatt, while the official price issued by the state amounted to about 40 thousand Lebanese pounds in the month of July and 48 thousand pounds in August 2026, which led to the issuance of bills with astronomical numbers, some of which exceeded thousands of dollars.
Informed ministerial sources believe that this chaos will not be put to an end unless the municipality receives this file and requests that the generators be confiscated and managed officially, as a number of municipalities have done in various regions, or that it undertakes to monitor the bills on a monthly basis and seize the violating generators, while seeking to issue rulings that may lead to the imprisonment of their owners.
Will the state, and the competent judicial and security authorities, take action to put an end to this dilemma?
