The executive body of the Association of Full-Time Professors at the Lebanese University raised its objection to the draft 2027 budget, calling on professors to descend en masse at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, to Riad Solh Square, to demand that the scheduled increase in salaries and pensions be included in the body of the budget.
The Commission announced, following a meeting it held today to discuss a number of issues, most notably the deteriorating living reality, that it is following with great concern the worsening living, health and social crises, and the insane rise in prices that are now affecting all segments of Lebanese society, in exchange for an unprecedented collapse in purchasing power.
It denounced ignoring the draft 2027 budget, Resolution No. 2, issued by the Council of Ministers on February 16, 2026, approving an 11-fold increase in salaries and pensions, to be implemented as of January 1, 2027, bringing the total multiplication to 30 times during the year 2027.
The Commission considered that ignoring the decision constitutes a direct attack on the rights of employees and professors and a dangerous retreat from government obligations.
After exhausting all means of review and demand, the Commission announced its full commitment to the rights of professors, and called on them to participate extensively in the “Gathering of Public Sector Associations” movement, alongside the military and civilians, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, in Riad Solh Square in central Beirut, to amend the draft budget for 2027 and include the content of Resolution No. 2 in its text.
