Civil defense teams controlled most of the series of fires that broke out in several points around the towns of Selaata and Hamat in the Batroun district, after the fire spread quickly due to the strong winds and the rugged area.
The fire had broken out in the woods and along the Hamat sea road extending between Selaata and Hanoush, before it expanded towards Hamat, which required the intervention of civil defense teams from several points to contain the fire and prevent its expansion.
The personnel were able to contain the fire and control the fire in Selaata and Hamat, while the fire was completely controlled in the Al-Hari area.
Civil Defense teams, supported by a Lebanese Army helicopter, continue cooling operations and treating a spot that still poses a danger, to prevent the fire from renewing and spreading again.
The extinguishing operations faced great difficulties due to the speed of the winds and the rugged location, especially since the burning mountain was located on the sea front, which contributed to accelerating the spread of the fire and obstructing the fire brigades’ access to some hotspots.
