1. Job disappearance and labor market disruption
Gates warned of the broad effects of artificial intelligence on traditional jobs, noting that rapid transformation may threaten the stability of large sectors of the workforce and lead to the extinction of entire professions if they are not prepared for them with effective rehabilitation mechanisms.
2. Empowering malicious actors (weaponizing technology)
Gates expressed his serious concerns about advanced technology being exploited by criminals and malicious actors to enhance their capabilities to carry out complex cyber attacks, or produce harmful materials and destructive tools with unprecedented capabilities.
3. Loss of control and its social repercussions
The risk of losing control over autonomous smart systems represents a fundamental challenge, in addition to the potential social and psychological impacts on emerging generations as a result of excessive reliance on smart systems instead of real human interaction.
Gates pointed out that confronting these challenges is not limited to leaving the future of technology in the hands of a narrow group of experts and technology companies alone, but rather requires broad global cooperation and regulatory proactiveness that protects societies from its negative repercussions.
