More than one passkey
WhatsApp users can now add more than one passkey to the same account, which is especially beneficial for people who use Android and iPhone devices.
Passkeys allow you to log in using your fingerprint, facial recognition, or device lock code, without having to enter additional codes each time.
According to Meta, more than one billion people use WhatsApp passkeys, and these keys can be managed from the account settings within the application.
Stronger protection with two-step verification
The update also included the development of the two-step verification feature, which provides an additional layer of protection to prevent account control even if someone else obtains a one-time verification code.
Instead of relying on a 6-digit code only, the user can now choose a longer password that includes letters, numbers, and special symbols, making it more difficult to guess.
Information about anonymous calls
The third update, currently available on Android devices, provides additional information when receiving a call from a number that is not in your contacts.
WhatsApp may show the user whether the number is from a different country, or if the caller shares groups on the application, which helps him evaluate the call before answering.
Meta believes that this information gives the user additional time to think, especially since scammers often rely on urgency to push their victims to make quick decisions.
The updates come as part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance account security, in addition to full end-to-end encryption that protects personal messages and calls by default.
