Apple is preparing to introduce ads into the Apple Maps application, in a move aimed at boosting revenues, but it confirms that the experience will be different from the advertising model adopted in Google Maps.
According to a report published by TechCrunch, the company explained that the ads will not depend on tracking users or building personal profiles, but rather will appear to companies wishing to promote their services when searching for sites or activities related to them within the application.
The new feature will allow owners of restaurants, stores, and various services to highlight their businesses in search results within the application, similar to paid ads in other map applications, with Apple confirming that user data will not be used to target them with ads.
This step comes at a time when Apple seeks to expand its business in the services sector, which has become one of its most important sources of revenue, in addition to continuing to develop the “Apple Maps” application to be a stronger competitor in the navigation applications market.
The company is expected to begin testing this feature gradually before launching it on a larger scale, while continuing to stress that privacy will remain an essential element in the design of its advertising services.
