The UAE announced on Friday that a “technical malfunction” in its early warning system led to incorrect messages being sent to residents about a potential missile threat.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said that the malfunction that occurred this evening was dealt with, noting that the specialized teams began remediation procedures as soon as it was detected, in accordance with approved plans to ensure continuity of services and reduce any potential impacts on users.

This warning brought to mind the warnings issued at the height of the US-Israeli war on Iran, when Iranian attacks on targets in the Gulf region, where US military bases are located, prompted the Emirati authorities to send messages related to public safety.
