Iran announced the execution of a death sentence against a person it accused of transmitting sensitive information to the United States and Israel during the recent war, in a move that reflects the continued tightening of Iranian security in conjunction with regional tensions and ongoing negotiations with Washington.

The Iranian judiciary’s Mizan agency reported on Sunday that the authorities executed a person named Mojtaba Kayan after convicting him of sending information related to the Iranian defense sector to the “enemy.”

The agency explained that the accused was transferring data related to Iranian defense capabilities to the United States and Israel during the war, without providing additional details regarding the nature of the information or the method of communication.

The implementation of the death sentence comes at a time when Iran is witnessing an internal security escalation in parallel with the regional war and the existing tension with Israel and the United States, amid ongoing campaigns targeting people whom Tehran accuses of spying or cooperating with foreign parties.

During the past months, the Iranian authorities have intensified their security measures, especially after the military strikes and tensions related to the American-Israeli war on Iran, which prompted Tehran to tighten control over sensitive security and military files.

This coincides with reports that Washington and Tehran are close to reaching understandings to stop the escalation, amid continuing fears of the collapse of the negotiations and the return of military confrontation to the region.
