On Tuesday evening, Russia Today reported that a mass grave containing about 10 bodies was found inside one of the abandoned quarries in the vicinity of the Ish al-Warwar area in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which sparked a state of security alert and anxiety among the people.
According to preliminary information, the discovery of the site came after local reports prompted the competent authorities to immediately go to the place, where the concerned teams began field investigations and collected evidence, in conjunction with imposing a security cordon around the area.
The sources confirmed that investigations have been launched to identify the victims and uncover the circumstances of the incident, while combing and inspection work continues inside and around the site, amid anticipation of what additional details may be revealed in the coming hours.
This development comes after a series of similar discoveries that Syria witnessed during the past months, including the discovery of mass graves and human remains in Moadamiyat al-Sham and inside the former State Security building in Maarat al-Numan in the Idlib countryside, which brings back to the forefront the file of missing persons and violations related to years of war.
